Distress Oxides

Alreet!

I finally got some Distress Oxides today! Yay!

They are incredible. They’re so vibrant and offer a completely different look to distress inks. They give a chalky finish to a project but what i like about them is you can add layer upon layer without worrying about the colours mixing. Want blue over yellow? No problem, it won’t turn green. Amazing!

I started by choosing two colours of oxide and the same two colours of distress ink:

I used Spiced Marmalade and Broken China. The left is ink and the right is oxide. Love both looks!

So after, I went on to do a couple of projects:

This is a distress ink background with the deer and sentiment stamped over the top in oxide. I initially stamped with Broken China, but then moved my project very slightly before stamping again with wilted violet to create a drop shadow effect. I then sprayed the image with water a couple of times to oxidise it and create the vibrancy.

For this project, I created the background with distress oxide but then stencilled over the top with distress inks as I wanted the opacity of the inks to create a softer background image. I then finished it off with some Imagination Crafts sparkle medium and the Sizzix Scribble dies from Tim Holtz.

I’ve only got 5 out of the 12 colours of oxide, and I’m already having so much fun with the pallet I have. Roll on payday when I can get some more!

Thanks for popping by!

Return of the Messy Crafting

Alreet!

I’ve been doing a lot of parchment crafting recently, and as wonderful and therapeutic I find it, I was starting to miss my messier crafts! So I bought myself the new Tim Holtz stamping platform and some distress crayons then threw myself back into it.

I pulled out some IndigoBlu stamps and a Clarity stencil & just went for it. No plan, just playing and experimenting! My new platform was superb for getting my stamps in the right place, and also proved very useful when I wanted to pin my stencil in place whilst I was working with it. And the distress crayons! So lovely and creamy, & the colour pallet is amazing!

This is what I ended up with:

Inspired by my best friend who’s a scientist and likes elephants!

Thank you for popping by!

Clarity Gold Club Review

Hello!

Hope 2017 is treating you well so far – mine hasn’t been the greatest but onward and upward!

In my last post, I briefly mentioned that I’d joined the Clarity Gold club. Now I’ve had a couple of instalments through, I can safely say that it is worth every penny. I opted for the stamp and groovi clubs, however I’m already considering upgrading my membership to include the stencil club as I’m enjoying it so much.

Every month, you receive either a stamp, stencil or groovi plate (depending on which club you’ve opted for) and each comes with a step by step inspiration sheet with two projects. On top of that, you get a storage folder, 10% discount on Clarity products, free P&P and a monthly newsletter. As a relatively novice crafter still, the tuition was my primary motive for signing up, and I have not been let down.

Below are my first creations from the club:

Not perfect, still a long way to go but overall I’m very happy with what I’ve accomplished.

As I was enjoying it so much, I had a look at the back issues of club instalments and found an absolutely gorgeous wolf stamp which I had to have. I think he’s my favourite so far, and I’m super impressed with the finished project:

I never could have achieved something like this a few months ago. The instructions are so easy to follow and come complete with full colour images so you can wrap your head around each individual step.

I also ordered myself a back issue of a stencilling pack as I wanted to have a dabble to help me decide whether to upgrade my membership or not. I opted for the hare stencil and this was my first attempt:

Not too bad for a rookie stenciller!

Overall, I would highly recommend the Clarity club. I’ve learnt so much already and can’t wait to see where it takes my skills over the coming months. Plus you’ll always have the excitement of receiving a mystery envelope of crafty goodies at the end of each month.
